For Parents & Families

  • Your child studies hard and does all of his homework, but just can’t seem to pass his math tests. We can test your child, interview teachers, and do direct observation to determine if this problem is related to a specific learning disability, test anxiety, memory and organization difficulties, or particular “holes” in his math background.
  • Your child tries hard to make friends but approaches people in a way that puts them off. She does not understand why people don’t want to talk to her and feels bad about herself. Through individual counseling, coaching on social skills, and practice through role-playing we can help her gain the confidence and skills to interact with people successfully.
  • You have spent hours reading through reports by speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, and other professionals on how best to help your child but the information is overwhelming and often unclear. We can sit down with you and decipher the reports so you know what to do. We will then work with you, the school, and other agencies to put in place the right services for your child.

For School Staff & Other Professionals

  • As a high-school principal, many of your teachers report having difficulty dealing with challenging behavior from students. We can come to your school and train teachers on new skills for analyzing and managing behavior. In addition, we can review your schoolwide policies and programs and give you specific recommendations to better manage and reduce problem behaviors.
  • More and more students arrive at school with different medical and psychological diagnoses that are unfamiliar to staff. Not having information on the educational implications of these conditions makes it difficult to provide appropriate educational services. Our combined experience of over 15 years in hospitals and research institutions gives us the background and skill to train and educate your staff on a range of conditions from autism to traumatic brain injuries. This information enables you to develop regulation-compliant, effective programs.
  • One of your students has a dual diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome and Bipolar Disorder. We can provide case management for this student’s complex needs. This service often includes reviewing results of his assessments, interviewing adults (teachers, parents, therapists), and conducting observations. We then identify appropriate services, providers, and accommodations. We create a communication system to maintain efficient information exchange among all parties. We maintain an ongoing relationship with you and your staff to help you most efficiently provide an appropriate education for this student.

Tom established a rapport with my son and helped him to break down schoolwork into manageable pieces so they would be less overwhelming.
